A few weeks ago I was at a lunch where the majority of the women were LDS. Several either have children on missions or have had children come home (honorably OF COURSE!) and one part of their conversation really bothered me. I can't stop thinking about it.

Two women shared that their sons called home at unexpected times.. both times were while they were in the MTC to tell their parents that their Visas had arrived. Both women shared that they had the same reaction to hearing their sons voices on the phone: PANIC. And their first response to hearing their son for the first time in several months was this: "Are you supposed to be calling me? Is this okay with your mission president?"

Really.

Instead of being thrilled to talk to their child they are wondering if their child is FOLLOWING THE FUCKING RULES.

Which, they assured their mothers- they were.

I cannot IMAGINE even thinking about rules if my child called me- especially if it was the first time in several months. The rules about no telephone contact with families while missionaries are out is beyond absurd and very cultish. Talk about keeping missionaries under the control of mission presidents and the rules of the machine.

I always say that if you can tell someone what underwear they must wear, you have total control over them. Well- if you can get a mother to completely go against her natural instincts and care about the rules of the goddamn church over her own children.... the control is complete.

Agreed . . . and, if you can get someone to sit through that movie in the chant house and make them think they're being receptive to the great spirit while coming out more convinced they will continue to spend 10% of their gross income to an organization that builds $3B malls and coerces people to give their time cleaning toilets . . . then yeah, the controlling factors are working on those individuals.

Fear will keep them in line . . . :shakehead:

They know that if their child is sent home early from a mission, they will be judged as harshly as they have judged others in the same situation.

I am reminded yet again how thankful I am I got myself and my children out of that mind-fuck.

Members are conditioned to obey and follow rules from day one. Total obedience is really the only constant in TSCC's doctrine. Obedience and rule following is how you get to the Mormon heaven.

I think the same thoughts every day.

I don't think anyone hates the organization more than my kids.

Including Mercury.

That's so disturbing when it's pulled out and a light shone on it like that.

I remember when my MIL's last sons (twins) came home off of their missions and a week or so later she was crying. When we asked her why she said "Because we won't have the blessings of having sons on missions anymore. What if we can't sell our hay anymore? What if our cows all die? What if (FIL) loses his job?" Seriously. Losing it over this new reality. She'd had sons on missions for over 10 years at that point and they were all out of sons to send.

Luckily, they've been just fine.

That is such an incredible story.

Looking back at the scam, seeing it for what it really is, it seems members who aren't willing or able to untangle themselves from the lies are hopelessly, unfortunately never going to escape, living fantasies that create false hope, based on false teaching, leading to unrealistic outcomes. Yet to them, there is never an illogical reason for their illogical experiences.

Hook, line & sinker - the duped keep slogging through the shit, pretending they're dancing through a beautiful meadow of fresh spring flowers.

I hate that organization for perpetuating the lies. Their leaders are worthy of no respect.

:headshake: This is so pathetically sad. I ache when I read the kind of balderdash it teaches. Phooey!

Makes me want to spray paint graffiti on ... oh never mind ... :grimace:

I think it shows a lack of depth and growth, very shallow person. Her identity is totally wrapped up in her role as defined by TSCC. So what s her next role to be?
