Typical TBM justification response:

The Spirit moved his Bishop to call him as a Scoutmaster knowing that it would be his downfall. Of course only after traumatizing a bunch of children.

The ends justify the means, right?

And now the faithful will get to see the results of the brethren's inspiration.

Another example that Mormons using the "spirit" before common sense. Run a fucking background check on people before assigning them children to care of!

OK; honestly. Not just Mormons, but ANY church should do it. Really.

And a lot (or even most) do. The small churches can't risk a lawsuit. Big ones, like the Mormons, can bully people and pay them off.

This happened in the ward of a co-worker of mine.
People are really upset because he was on the sex offenders website, and complaints were made to the stake presidency before this happened.
Many of the boys had complained to their parents about this individuals behavior around.
The even called him uncle perv.
The locals are saying that the church is covering it up because he let the kids drink on campouts.
He really did some awful things to a couple of boys. One of the victims family has apparently left the church. The other victim is still planning on going on a mission.

Sorry for digging up the dirt...
but please lets all be on the look out for similar problems.....

Are you saying this Richard Lloyd Dilley guy was recently convicted of new rape and molestation crimes in Davis County, after having served a prison sentence in Washington State for doing the same thing in the late '80s?

This guy? The one who likes to be called "uncle"?

I guess there was no trial--he pled guilty? Where are the news stories and publicity?

Lets see I started this so let me try to be more specific.
While browsing the Davis County Jail inmate roster, a man is shown being held on a large bail with 4 charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, 2 charges of Sodomy on a child, and one hold for Washington State.

So I do a web search on the guys name and up pops an article from Washington State 1990 ages are close and so I post.

So I hope that makes more sense.

How does this even happen? He got caught in the early 80s and was discharged from the Navy because of it. He got caught in the late 80s and got convicted and I hope excommunicated over it (who knows). Then it happens again recently under the _same_ circumstances? As a scoutmaster in an LDS ward? Really, how does this even happen? The church really doesn't give a fuck, do they?

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to reply. This definitely _is_ the same guy. We attended the same ward in the 80s in Seaside/Monterey Country. He was a boy scout leader for Troop 131 in Monterey, CA. There were rumors there too, but nothing was ever proven.

I was quite young at the time and I remember thinking he was creepy and not liking it when he picked me up, but I didn't know why. Later I realized it was because he had been touching me in an inappropriate manner.

The thing about this guy is he was incredibly charming. Everyone just loved him. He was so nice to everyone and helpful and very charismatic. I think that's the reason he got so many chances to get close to children.

This guy has cut a swath of pain through the people who have trusted him. I think he got 20 or so years this time. With any luck he won't get out in time to hurt anyone else.

Thank you for your sentiment. It was not a particularly important episode in my life, but some kids were not so lucky.

I think it is important for people to share information about these things. As leaders and members of communities, we need to be vigilant and listen to our kids when these things happen. The kids knew what was going on and tried to tell people. It was the adults who failed to listen in nearly every case.
