...on the plane I had that discussion with the non-religious world traveling lady sitting next to me ( and 60 years old - cool!)

Mormonism is messed up. I have a lot of family that could use a few grains of truth sprinkled out their to put them on their heels and defend the indefensible.

I hope that the talking heads keep saying "mormon, mormon, mormon" so that everyone googles "mormon" and discovers all the whacked beliefs and baggage mormonism carries - and then they start asking their mormon friends - which could be family members of mine. And then perhaps some of my family will question and quit wasting their time, money, and life in the soul-sucking cult.

JMO, I think it will work in reverse. The perceived persecution will further reinforce their belief in the bull shit.

I think many actives are already demoralized by their experience in TSCC. It will get worse for them as they will feel more isolated than before. If Mitts run for the Presidency creates a higher profile for groups like us or NOM, we could see a whole new group of posters on these boards. The greater threat is members realizing that they have choices and that they are not alone.

I agree that an attack on Mitt via his mormonism will feed the persecution complex.

I just want the word "mormon" to come up a lot. People are curious. The internet is ripe for the harvest.

"What do mormons believe?"

I find great interest in the "Romney spawned interest in mormonism"

This one I like --> http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/peopleandpower/2012/04/201244114433199395.html

This one, not so much --> http://romneyandmormonism.wordpress.com/

From my first link in this thread
Quote:
"According to a Gallup poll, one in five Americans would not vote for a Mormon for president, and it is not just Democrats, but Christians who are a key component of the Republican base."

And . . .
Quote:
"Evangelical Christians in the US have had a long competition with Mormons for converts. Philip Roberts, who served as the head of the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary for over a decade, says many evangelicals now fear that the election of a Mormon president would give the Mormon faith additional legitimacy around the globe, aiding the missionary efforts of an 'un-Christian' faith."

Evangelicals in this election are between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, they loudly decry the antics of Obama, on the other hand, they have been very outspoken against mormonism.

Considering public perspective,
Quote:
"One in five voters said they would not vote for Kennedy because they were afraid he would take orders from the Pope - the same percentage who now say they would not vote for a Mormon for president."

As much as I am convinced the current administration is spending our nation into disaster (their financial budget proudly heralded by Obama), I am convinced they need to be ousted. But the thought of putting in Romney, of all people, is incredibly difficult for me to go along with.

I believe these last two elections prove the Republicans are stupid. If they can't manage to get better candidates for president other than McCain/Palin and Romney/?, then they deserve to lose.

With all the reluctance I'm capable of mustering, I will vote for a Republican candidate in the fall not because I like Romney but because I absolutely deplore the current, so called leader.
