This from the New York Times

Of course, I don't play on EITHER team anymore, but it so does my heart good to read one mormon finally stand up and say "I don't want to be in your Crappy Club for Jerks" instead of butt-kissing all the christianists.

My favorite quote: "Being a Christian so often involves such boorish and meanspirited behavior that I marvel that any of my Mormon colleagues are so eager to join the fold."

It seems like anymore that mormons are competing to show just HOW meanspirited and boorish they can be too. Even as a TBM I couldn't understand these attempts to sidle up to fundamentalists - who were open about HATING mormons - in hopes of being invited into bed with them.

LOL. Whoever this dude is, I kinda like him.

I think the whole being proud that we are peculiar people thinking got thrown under the bus by GBH’s PR blitz. If anyone wanted to main stream Mormons, it was him. Because of his efforts, the church has lost some of its core identity.

Whatever happens in November, I hope Mormonism eventually realizes that it doesn’t need Christianity’s approval and will get big and beat up all the imperious Christians who tormented it when it was small, weird and painfully self-conscious. Mormons are certainly Christian enough to know how to spitefully abuse their power.

LOL.

I like this article except for the proposal of considering Mormonism a distinct fourth branch of the Abrahamic tradition. We all know that the membership numbers are inflated. I also think that TBMs tend to over-estimate the church's cultural and religious importance generally. If any faith gets to be recognized as a part of the Abrahamic tradition, yet distinct enough to be set apart, then it should be the Baha'is.

The first thing that led to my disbelief was when I could not escape from the fact that Mormons ARE christian. IMHO the only people worse than mormons are born again xians. If there was a way in which I could have classed myself as mormon but not xian I would have done so, and I may still have been a mormon today.
