Since I vented in my last topic, I thought I would share this story of something nice that has happened to me since leaving the Mormon Church - I call it "A Coffee Love Story" and it is the story of how I met my (very sweet) husband. I wrote it a while ago so maybe some of you have seen it already but it is a story that makes me smile. :-)

Great story!! Nice to hear the happy ones too. :-)

ETA: Your user name makes more sense after reading that story. Also? Love your blog. I read the linked essay about the author at the children's hospital...wow. Breathtaking? Really. (What do you think: Can I read her novel without dying from it?)

Her book is in a very different vein than her essay. But yes, her essay was one that I thought about for a very long time. I was grateful she didn't try and sentimentalize the children. Her book is full of crazy mixed-up characters, all of whom love each other and stick together in spite of their flaws. And it's set in Utah, which will make you laugh, as she is very true to Utah culture in general. So I would recommend the book just as being a fun, zany read.

I took a writing seminar from the author Miah Arnold and she is a great person, with the cutest kids you'll ever meet. Miah is not an ex-Mormon but rather the descendant of ex-Mormons - her great-great-grandmother was a second wife and left the Mormon Church after being disowned by her husband once polygamy became illegal. Miah grew up in a small town in rural Utah, so she really knows the whole Mormon/exMormon culture.

Doubtingmo: Here is the link to the essay "You Owe Me", which was about Miah's experience as a writing teacher for kids with cancer

Here is also a review for Miah's new book, which is set in Utah and features a woman who ends up marrying two husbands and can't decide which one to keep and which one to divorce - it's a fun reversal on the idea of polygamy.
