I wasn't sure if I would post this here, but what the hell I'm drunk enough. My brother died two weeks ago. His health was already very poor, but it was so sudden. It sucked, I was with him when he died, and I was in charge of his living will. I had the "honor" of telling my mother that my brother was dying and we needed to stop treatment to honor his wishes. (Thank god for cell phones or would have been completely alone that morning.) And then telling the staff shut it off. It still sucks.

Anyways I've mostly been drinking wine, but I've had some glenlivet (12 year) as well, as dogma recommended, sans rockstar. And it's good stuff. It's certainly worthy of my brothers memory.

I'm doing better now, this is definitely one situation were a big family helps. Anyways I'm not drunk enough yet time to drink a bit more. (obviously since I still make sense I think)

I'm so sorry for your loss, no thanks. I take it you were pretty close to your brother?

Thanks for your thoughts, I was pretty close as were my daughters. He struggled a lot in his life, and finally was overwhelmed by a massive infection.

Now that I'm not drunk, I feel better. The pain is fading, part of me wonders if he isn't better off now. He was wheelchair bound for years, and was increasingly unhappy.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and well wishes. It helps. Things are getting back to normal. It's still weird though, getting used to the idea that he's dead.

Thanks for you well wishes. I was feeling a little sick on Saturday morning afterwards, so it might be a few weeks before I drink anything.

Thanks for the caution, I do try to be careful, there are cases of addictive behavior in my family and I don't want to go there.

This is the hardest part of enduring the loss, in my experience. You still think, Oh I need to call so-and-so, and then you realize you can't. Or you think you see them out of the corner of your eye. Or dream about them. Especially with someone you loved deeply or cared about, it's just a long difficult process to adjust to their absence.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I can't imagine being in that position. I know that it's not helpful, but I can't help but think that you honored your brother's wishes - as much as that sucks to know. I have watched people in pain, as their bodies are kept alive for weeks or months and it's awful. Good thoughts sent your way.
