When I got married I was a very athletic and fit individual. I worked out nearly every day and enjoyed hiking and cycling and pick-up bball and ultimate frisbee that is ubiquitous at BYU dorms. Anyway, within a year of getting married, the stress and constant beat downs from my then wife had taken their toll and I had put on 50 pounds. Over the next 10 years I added a couple of pounds a year. In the end I had gained 100 pounds and was morbidly obese. It was a factor in the divorce as my ex had remained fit, and I had not. It has been one of the hardest things for me to take in the whole divorce. Anyway, I had a really good year in 2011, and was able to get a substantial raise. So, in November, I had Lap-Band surgery. I have lost 22 pounds so far, and I am no longer morbidly obese (BMI >40). Life is beginning to look better again. Being fit and athletic was always something in which I took great pride growing up. Losing just a little bit of weight has been a huge boon to my outlook on life. I've had to buy new clothes already, and they are already getting big on me. I'm excited for me, and I need to share.

If anyone is considering weightloss surgery, I recommend you do it yesterday. The changes I'm noticing in my mood are phenomenal, and I still have another 80 pounds to lose. The prospect of being active and getting back into dating is great.

Congratulations on your weight loss ! :) I'm interested to hear more about this topic.

After surgery, was there a liquid diet to follow? How long was the recovery? Were there any side effects?
Is this a lap band that can be adjusted or loosened later on?

There was a pre-op and post-op diet. To this point that accounts for the majority of the weight I've lost. Following surgery there was a week of liquid only, then soft foods. I had surgery on Nov. 17th and by Thanksgiving I was eating some mashed potatoes and stuffing. The recovery has been very easy for me. I had surgery on Thursday and was back to work on Monday morning, a bit sore, but back. The Lap-Band is adjustable, and I've been in for two adjustments already bu have another one or two needed before it really starts to make an impact (which is normal).

Yeah, but I'll be hitting the gym more which takes time from CoD. :) KDR is up to 1.42 and climbing, which is pretty good for me. Got in with a group of guys that are really good, as the guys I was running with weren't so good. I'll hit 8th prestige tonight, too.

Playing with quality team mates in an objective based game is key. If you surround yourself with noobs you play on the defensive and dodge kill streaks and spawn rape the entire game.

you are WAY ahead of me on prestige.. well done

I had a distal gastric bypass 7 years ago, and have lost 150 lbs. My weight goes up and down in a 20 lb range, depending how compliant or naughty I am. I never exercise. My bone density is swiss cheese, I'm a flabby bag of bones, and I have zero muscle mass. I'm seriously leaning towards taking this beast of an issue in hand, and starting a walking and weight lifting regime. I'm going to hate being old if I don't get stronger.

I have some really bad side effects from this surgery. Chronic diarrhea is the most annoying, and it hits me at the most inopportune times. Sometimes I eat rice or a piece of bread and it clogs my throat up and I burp for hours on end. I can't throw up, so burping seems to be my body's response to try to relieve the pressure or something.
I get drunk super easy, I rarely have hangovers. When I do, I'm toast.
I no longer use the seat belt extension on an airplane.

I would do it again though. I like shopping in a normal size. I'm a size 12-14 (was a 10 for about 6 months on my old killer walk-12-miles-a-day job) If anyone wants to discuss this with me, I'm very open about it, and would be private with you. Many times people do this and don't want it known until they are a success. There's always that worry of being a failure. Anyway, I think weight loss surgery is wonderful for most, and will share my experience in detail if anyone is interested.
