You should talk to a church leader about this. I'm sure they'd be glad to give you all the membership stats.

Actually you'd recognize me from Lord of the Rings. I played Arwen.

I'm an actor, too. You may have seen me in Star Wars: A New Hope, in the brilliant role of the main villain, Grand Moff Tarkin. My ruthless demeanor and skull-like visage was the highlight of a film that is beloved by millions even today.

I'm secretly a nuclear physicist that is working on the Hadron Particle Collider when I'm not consulting with Tyra Banks on the next top model. We're BFF's you know. I'm lucky enough to have every ethnicisity in my family tree. My DH is best buds with Stephen Hawkings when he isn't curing cancer. We're just so awesome.

translucentcitrus, You know, when I was in HS, I was an honor student and a nerd. (No surprise there).

I remember the kids that thought they were "cool" "original".. they smoked, cursed and drank.. My niece was one of these kids, and she overdosed on heroin and is dead now. Most of these people, don't go anywhere in life. I know from psych 101 they are "trying to fit it" "be cool" "find themselves.."

Point: Trans, you come across immature, insecure, uneducated by your lack of the use of many wonderful non-curse words in the English language etc.

Try something new: Try not being sucha potty mouth.. I feel like I'm talking to my 14 year old twin daughters.. I always wondered why when people leave the Church all of a sudden, normally non cursing, non smoking men and women.. decide to go off the deep end and sound like (look like) drunken sailors.. Clean up and get a little class, trans.. your life will go a lot smoother.

Kid's don't take heroin to be cool. They take it to dull emotional pain. Your neice already had issues including cutting. I think you need to continue in your psych classes. I don't think you can lump your neice's pain into just wanting to be one of the "cool" kids. Given her "home town", to be one of the cool kids I would think she would have to be a perfect blond molly mo to fit in.

SUbur. soccor mom.. you at least have the courage to show your real picture, thank you, that is you right??

And if you are dealing drugs or doing, which most people who kid about it are actually (again, I'm a stats gal) using or have sold it for real, I would suggest stopping. The reason: you'll eventually get caught.

Again, I reiterate: Why do seemingly descent people, go off the deep end when they leave the Church? It's like a teen who had too many restrictions and then leaves home and tries EVERYTHING under the sun.. Can't common sense, (you don't need the Church for that) dictate that smoking, drinking, cursing, drugging, humour about drug use etc etc..is not only foolish, but hurts noone but yourself? If you want to hurt the Church, live a good life, and forget about it (the Church) and move on.. Why hate it so much? Why b blame it or anyone for that matter, for your choices, mistakes etc etc?

I have more respect for people who take responsibility for their actions and choices and don't play "victim" their whole life. It's much more empowering.

Nobody "goes off the deep end". That's a caricature that believing mormons latch on to due to a misunderstanding of how perfectly normal, healthy, non-mormon people behave.

- Smoking hurts, yes. Everyone knows that, and the people who choose to do so anyway are no worse than people who know that a poor diet is bad for you but eat poorly anyway.
- Drinking alcohol in moderation and with a healthy understanding of its effects is harmful to no one. Abuse of alcohol, like abuse of anything else, is harmful, sure, but is not unique to non-mormons. And most well-adjusted human beings have no trouble using alcohol responsibly.
- Humor about drug use is also perfectly fine. If you can't laugh at something, it's not worth living.
- Cursing shows a finer grasp of the subtleties of language use than stilted, sanctimonious derision of cursing shows. I give a big long speech explaining what precisely I think is wrong with a given situation, sure. Or I could just say "Balls," and my tone meaning would be perfectly clear to any listener. Many of us here can speak and write circles around many of our peers. But we don't disdain profanity when profanity is precisely what we intend to say.
