either on this forum or on the FAQ thread.

I see that others can highlight text and hyperlink certain text, but I don't see anything on my screen that allows me to highlight text or to hyperlink anything other than the little URL button on the right hand side. But I tried that and all I get is something that looks like this.

here http://www.thefoyer.org/posting.php?mode=newtopic&f=3

This is what my screen looks like,

am I missing something?

I think I understand your question. To make a hyperlink where the text in your sentence is highlighted and has a live link embedded, you use the URL button in this way:

Type [URL=http://url]insert the text you want highlighted[/ url] and it will create a link.

In the example I just typed, do it just like I typed it, except delete the space between the forward slash and "url" in the closing bracket. I put the space there so you could see what it looks like typed out.

Thanks,

ok, lemme see if this works.....

Shit!

Do you have to crack the DaVinci Code to hyperlink a word?

What about highlighting?

Hallelujah! Praise be to the truebutnotuseful! You've proven useful. I don't care what your Moron handlers told you!

There should be an easier way, but thanks! :D

Now if I could just figure out how to highlight in this forum!

I don't know that there's a way to highlight. You can change the color of the text itself, however.

This:
Code:
[color=red]This text is red.[/color]

Yields this:
This text is red.

You can also use hexadecimal. This:
Code:
[color=#ff3399]This text is pink.[/color]

Yields this:
This text is pink.

Hexadecimal color chart.

There are rare occasions where I'm both true and useful. Usually I'm just one or the other, though. :)

produces this:
mormon

hrrmmmm....

Perhaps this is better...
Code:
mor[size=0]m[/size]on

which produces:
mor[size=0]m[/size]on

Kori, if you don't like having to type out the full url tags, another thing you can do is type out the words you want your link to say, highlight that, then click the URL button. Now you can just click between the "l" and the "]" of the opening tag and add "=www.whatever.org", and have your texty link a little quicker.
Code:
Here's a link to the Foyer!

[url]Here's a link to the Foyer![/url]

[url=www.thefoyer.org]Here's a link to the Foyer![/url]

Just remember that every bulletin board formatting tag has to have a closing tag. The reason your try of "[URL=http://www.thefoyer.org/]here" didn't work is that it needed a closing /url tag (in brackets). :-)

Hit the preview button before you post it so you can make sure the tag has worked properly.
