Take a close look at the dates on those quotes and look at who is being quoted. The most recent quote is from 1998- 11 years ago- and the oldest is from 1942! BKP is the ONLY person quoted who is still alive.
Good point. I wonder if the current leaders of the church are too afraid to say anything so direct about women working outside the home? Let the old guard deliver the bad news, and women just have to suck it up as divine prophecy that happened long ago and nope, sorry, can't be changed.
I'd bet most of us know a TBM couple who would be happiest if roles were reversed. I suspect my brother and his wife could happily trade places. They're both very successful in their realms, but look longingly over the fence at what their partner has. Personally, I feel very lucky that my wife wanted to stay home with our kids. We both agreed it would be a good thing for one of us to stay home at least for the first few years, but I really didn't want it to be me. I like having a career! I'd give it up in a heartbeat to stay home for a few years with them all, if I won the mega lotto, but I think I'd go nuts if I gave up my career entirely and permanently.
Makes me shudder -- with pity -- to think that none of my sisters or sisters-in-law felt they had any "moral" choice in the matter. Every one of them is a SAHM, even though some were career women before marriage. I see them all trying to make the best of it, but I'm sure some miss the working world (at least a couple do part-time work on the side, supposedly for extra income, but probably as much for the outlet it gives them).
