I have a TBM family member who regularly updates her status with church-related messages. About every other day I'm convinced one of these "status" updates is directed to me. Here are some recent examples:

TBM Family Member: Earth life is like a blink of the eyes, compared to eternity. If you don't believe now, you will.

TBM Family Member: questions about the LDS church answered by Harvard student---she does an excellent job and doesn't leave anything out.

TBM Family Member: You can live by faith in God, or you can live by faith in man. It's up to you.

Ew. If she wants to play little passive-aggressive games like that, you should update your own status with something to counter it, imo. There's a nice list of quotes at http://pharyngula.org/infidelquotes.php

Not long ago I was sleeping in a cabin in the woods and was awoken in the middle of the night by the sounds of a struggle between two animals. Cries of terror and extreme agony rent the night, intermingled with the sounds of jaws snapping bones and fle sh being torn from limbs. One animal was being savagely attacked, killed and then devoured by another. "A clearer case of a horrible event in nature, a natural evil, has never been presented to me. It seemed to me self-evident that the natural law that animals must savagely kill and devour each other in order to survive was an evil natural law and that the obtaining of this law was sufficient evidence that God did not exist. If I held a certain epistemological theory about "basic beliefs", I might conclude from this experience that my intuition that there is no God co-existing with this horror was a "basic belief" and thus that I am epistemically entitled to be an atheist without needing to justify this intuition.
-Quentin Smith, "An Atheological Argument from Evil Natural Laws"

Nothing could be more anti-Biblical than letting women vote.
-[Editorial, Harper's Magazine, November 1853]

Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion.
-[Democritus]

Quite a long list of quotes to browse, there.

Anyone else interested in what the Harvard student says to defend the church?

Family member, not person. I can't drop her, and I can't comment on this stuff, either. My only recourse would be to stay away from FB entirely.

You could filter out her updates from the news feed, so that she's still a FB friend, but you don't have to see it when you first log on.

To be honest, the lack of a social filter sometimes tells us what other people are thinking, but would never dare say to our face. For example, when we left the church she once told me that the family frequently sat around, speculating and offering guesses as to how long it would take my wife and I to get divorced.

These are serious topics. One option is to adapt them, then use them for your own FB status message.

* plenty of these at FLAK

I only got through about three minutes. I thought it was going to be someone answering real questions. Not saccharine testimonkey-bearing. Blech.

It's going to be really bad on GC weekend. I have one friend who posts things like, "Elder Oaks rocks!" on her status update. I can't think of very many people who rock less.

I was gonna warn you but decided not too. The thing mormons like about the video is that she's good looking, clean, she can talk clearly, and she goes to Harvard. Of course what the fail to realize is that there are dozens of equally good looking, clean, clear talking, (insert ivy league school here) educated atheists, buddhists, baptists, methodists, jews etc... who could do just as good a job if not better testifying of their faith than this girl. I wasn't impressed at all.

Nice. You stop attending a church, so your own family is sitting around like vultures waiting for your life to implode because of it. Wow.

Why not?

She won't even know you've dropped her unless she goes looking. And then you can tell her the truth when she asks why - say you found her Mormon status updates irritating in the extreme.

Ooooh! Here's another option that's better. Set up a group for Mormons and another group for everyone else. Then put her in the Mormon group. Then set your feed to only see the other group group.

Or, you can just X (delete) that person, and you won't see their updates any more, without unfriending them.
