Keep the name the Foyer. Archimedes abdicated. His whiny rant about how he invented the Foyer and we were stealing it is asinine (although hardly the most asinine thing he did last night).

Re: Cherry. It's an alternate Aimoo board that I think is semi-incognito. Someone formed it after getting in a fight with Arch. I don't know the url.

Quoting Arch: "Per my previous posts, I'm pretty much sick of this place. I've invested a lot of time and energy into it, and it's become a place that doesn't give anything back, at least for me.

So you all can do whatever the fuck you want. Go hang out on Cherry with the other Hate Bush groupies, or wimp away on the NOM board, or whatever.

The Foyer goes offline in 24 hours. That should give everyone plenty of time to copy shit off of here if they would like.

No matter who you are, don't e-mail me, don't PM me, don't post any messages regarding this. I'm done."

 I am shocked by this. Like many, I have posted on the Foyer for years, and enjoyed it very much. I also had a good relationship with Arch, and appreciate all he did and has done to create the Foyer (which, if memory serves, was an answer to the wild west of RfM). I'm blown away that politics caused the demise of the much-loved Foyer. I'm bummed, what with the Foyer tubing within days of my being banned from all access to FAIR.

Take care, Arch. I wish you only the best. I really didn't follow the politics blow-up that caused all this, but I thank you for your efforts over the years to make the Foyer a great bb. It will never be equaled, although I hold out hopes for the future of this new bb.

Just to be a little more precise, Arch caused the demise of the much-loved Foyer. Yes, one man's caprice did this. This particular outcome was far from necessary.

Well, I'm sorry to see the old board go. I don't think I helped the issue much with my posts, but really the issue is not politics. It is how some people react when others have an oposing opinion.

Perhaps myself and a few other stoked the flames but this is all down to Arch.

BTW...because of the time difference I have no idea what happened in the end - I went to bed! The last thing I did was to reply to Mr-Brightside's topic about how an apology needed to be issued.

My how things change, and I used to think the Foyer was slow compared with RfM!

At least Arch had the class to state that people owed Mayan Elephant an apology. Or was that all caps "ME" a narcissistic reference to himself? Hmm, I guess we'll never know. The "have a nice day" line was good too, very classy, but it needed a smiley face.

Well, I think we should take up a collection and send Mayan Elephant a fruit basket for all the harm we've caused him.

All right, all right, ALL RIGHT. I am SORRY that I told Mayan to fuck off on his first day on the Foyer, OK? (Jeebus, some people just need to move ON!)

Why not just have a "politics" section (like Grab-Ass but for politics). Then, if a thread in Milieu gets too political, the mod could, oh, I don't know, MOVE the fucking thread to the politics section rather than, oh, I don't know, SHUTTING down the whole board.

What? A *rational* approach? How novel.

Half of the problem, I fear, wasn't that political discussions were inflammatory, just that someone didn't like or want to be exposed to political ideas different from his own.

No, no, that isn't it. The problem is that people with opposing views vis a vis particular issues are unAmerican.

As for me, I love calling people pinkos, commies, fascists, wingnuts, and wackos, as the case may be.
