I have taken the results of the preliminary poll posted by tolworthy a few days ago, gathered the new suggestions made by the many talented people here, read the comments made, and narrowed it down to the Top 10 suggestions. I think we will try just having you vote on your one favorite. After a few days, we will see where the vote is going and take it from there. The list is in no particular order. I ask that everyone vote but vote only once. And, unlike in an Elementary School class election, feel free to vote for your own suggestion.

If there is a groundswell of support for a particular suggestion that I have left off the list, I will consider amending the poll to include it. Otherwise, we will probably go with the winner of this poll. Of course, solistics has an absolute veto power which he can exercise in an arbitrary and capricious manner should he choose to do so. But I doubt he will.

None of these really knocks my socks off. I do kind of like Sacred Groove and Nourish and Strengthen.

I don't expect that everyone will be totally happy with the choices, but certainly someone could come up with a way to do multi-option voting (a la AP football poll). I think that with weighted voting, we will be more likely to end up with a good name. I also think that we ought to not pick a name right away (maybe next week?) so people can mull over the options over time.

There seem to be equal numbers wanting to get it over with and wanting to take more time. On the weighted voting, the basic poll feature here does not support it and I talked to one of our resident techies who said it's actually not that easy (one of the guys who saved the archives from old Foyer) and he didn't have time. Let's see if a consensus develops. If some of the choices get no votes and there is another suggestion you'd really like to see, let me know.

Where's The Flaming Salamander? I was seriously going to vote for that one. I'm with Epstein--none of these really knocks my socks off. At this point anything that reeks of foyer sort of turns me off. And at the same time--stuff that's TOO mormony... well.... meh.... It's not that this stuff isn't clever in its way, but...

Can we have a run-off or something?

Yeah, and what about "The Kerfuckle"? I wanted to vote for that one.

How did "Flaming Sword of Laban" not make the final cut?

I say create another poll, with another 10 names. Take the top five from each, and then have a run-off poll.

Not to be a pain in the ass (actually that's not entirely true, I thoroughly enjoy being a pain in the ass), how about a vote for "don't care, lets just name this thing and move on"?

As long as you don't name it "Moabite is an asshat" I don't care.

In other words, my vote CAN be bought.

Yes, I honestly was going to vote for Flaming Salamander. It has a mormon subtext (because this is a board for mormons at the crossroads, as it were) but it's a sort of subversive subtext, which is also appropriate. Maybe too smart-ass though or too close to that "salamander society" one, I don't know. I just liked it.

I would vote for this. This is my favorite, non-vulgar choice.

This is also a good point. I am not opposed to calling the current Milieu "The Foyer", though.

Why don't we change "The Milieu" to Equality's "The Kerfuffle"? I think the definition matches:
Quote:
kerfuffle

n : a disorderly outburst or tumult; "they were amazed by the furious disturbance they had caused" [syn: disturbance, disruption, commotion, stir, flutter, hurly burly, to-do, hoo-ha, hoo-hah]
