I have a tbm friend whose teenage son got an emergency phone call one Thursday night from a friend in their stake. It seems that this friend was in the YM's presidency in the stake and knew of a family his ward where the girl had a prom date for the following night, Friday. She already had her dress, the whole nine yards. The girl's date was a kid in yet another ward whom the parents had never met. But he's a nice active mormon boy, right? His bishop vouched for him, blah, blah, blah. So everything's cool. But then, on that very day, the day before the prom, the girl's parents find out that their daughter's date is black. All hell breaks loose and she is commanded to break her date with the black boy. She is, of course, massively upset. So this AP adviser is brought in to trouble shoot. Help us find the girl a date, a nice white boy to take her to the prom.
They call my friend's son and ask if he would be willing to go with the girl to her prom. He's already been to the prom at his own school and he hardly knows the girl, but they're offering to pay for a very deluxe evening if he will take her. So he says sure, let me ask my dad.
So my friend said he almost said forget it, you can't go, when he heard the whole story. He finally decided that would be punishing the girl as much as anything and said it would be OK. But first he sat his boy down and gave him an earful about why the whole situation was crap.
Funny, I wonder if they tried to find a nice black girl for the jilted boy to go to prom with. Somehow, I doubt it.
Meh. If you ask me, they're not mixing it up very much, as a general rule. This kind of attitude still reigns.
I totally see the parents point here. After all, the boy had the mark of Cain. Regardless of the article of faith that says men are punished for thier own transgressions and not for their fathers, this boy was still clearly evil. If the boy were truly righteous and deserving of taking their daughter to prom, his skin would have changed color, and he would have become "white and delightsome." Mormon scientists at BYU will one day prove that DNA changes when you truly accept JS and JC, and you become pale and more susceptible to sunburns (because you are finally letting the light of christ into your body?).
Mormon geneticist will prove this just like mormon researchers at FARMS have proven the BOM to be true through archeology and history.
