Sad. What gives? I don't ever remember being told to "tone it down" at NOM.

But I do remember JV being a big troublemaker over there, lol

Hey! Long time no see, Desert Vulture.
I was rarely a troublemaker at NOM. (I saved it for the Foyer--I'm actually still meeting new people who remember some of that early stuff.) Once, though, on NOM, I compared the Church to Mao-era China and Dathon told me he was trying to discourage people from comparing the Church to a totalitarian regime, since it might scare away newbs. I can't remember how it worked out, exactly, but I think it got edited.
NOM has clearly changed direction from when we were posting there regularly. Self-editing for the benefit of believers is now required. I actually think Dathon is one of the people who has to self-edit the most. How he can bring himself to do that for 10,000+ posts, I'm not sure I understand, but I have some respect for that effort as a sincere strategy to reach the maximum number of people who need reaching that he can. Whether it is the most effective strategy for reaching and helping people is another question, of course. Lots of NOM alums don't think so. Kicking somebody off the board for calling another poster out on predatory activities goes too far, IMO. That kind of bizarre stuff happens at NOM every once in a while, and it's one of the reasons I don't spend much time there.
