Awesome! I will have to set the DVR. I know you can't tell us the results, but can you tell us about the experience? What was the hardest part? I've always imagined it would be getting the timing right on the buzzing in. The best champions don't just get the hard questions (er, answers), they beat the other players to the easy ones. I hope it wasn't a Weird Al moment for you:

One of my professors in graduate school was on Jeopardy. He was a newly minted Ph.D. from Harvard and smart and funny (and had a hot wife who was finishing her Ph.D. from Harvard). During the first half of the show, he got every single question and all the money, I shit you not. The second half of the show, he couldn't buzz in correctly to save his life and literally never got to answer a question and lost.

Also, for some unknown reason this thread made me green so hard my teeth hurt.

ETA: *grin* so hard, grin. Sheesh. Typos are weird.

Can't wait to see it. Make sure you resurrect this thread when the day gets closer to remind us.

I'll be watching. I've often thought I would do OK on that show. Hope you cleaned up.

I get too nervous in competitive situations. I would crash and burn.

Click here for my "Hometown Howdy". They post these to the Jeopardy website to promote the coming week's shows.

I just decided that it is going to be weird to watch myself.

Today's the day! Very excited.

Cumom, I just figured "green so hard" has something to do with jealousy. :) I think I'll start using that.

I don't know of anywhere to stream it, but at some point I hope to have a digital copy that I can make available for download.

Are you sure you can't set your dvr over the internet? I'm sure you can with DIRECTV and Dish.

I have comcast, can't do it that i know of. Anyway, I made it somewhere where I could watch it. Good job ep!! A couple coulda shoulda would'of's--

Damn, I thought you were gonna go for it on the daily double, the tennesee one.

That one you got wrong was I think the key point- I think you said "hugh grant" but I can't remember what the question or the right answer was.

It's cool though, even if you had doubled up on final the guy had you beat by a buck. I would've been extra pissed if you had actually lost by a dollar!!

Anyway, congrats ep, you repped FLAK very well. I like jeopardy regardless, but it was unbelievably fun/suspenseful to have someone you "know" that is playing and that you can root for. First time for me.

P.S. How come you didn't get more of those archeological questions, some had to do with "our" BoM ancestors!!! lol

:) Wow, congratulations on being on Jeopardy ! I thought you did awesomely ! You were very poised, and you came across very well on tv ! You are exremely telegenic and handsome ! You faced really tough competition with that guy to your right, Gabor ( spelling ?) Those categories were not easy, especially in the second round.

One time, I was on a tv game show created by Merv Griffin ( when Merv was still alive). Had to pass the test, go through a couple interviews with the contestant coordinators, same as Jeopardy. I studied like crazy for about three months before. It's one thing to think about answers off stage, but when one actually gets in front of the cameras with those blinding lights, and the audience applause, and the M.C. and everything......there are a lot of distractions, and only a fraction of a second to come up with the right answer. So I know what a tough, high pressure situation it can be, and you did GREAT !!! Excellent work. :D ( and it IS hard work)

Thanks for the kind words.

On the Hugh Grant answer, the question was about who played Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. I had this image of Hugh Grant in period clothes, but you'd think I'd be able to remember Colin Firth with how many of the women on this board have used him in their avatar. IMDB tells me that Hugh Grant was the male lead in Sense and Sensibility, made the same year as Pride and Prejudice. My strategy was not to guess, especially on high value clues, but in that case, it was in the last category and I really had nothing to lose by guessing. If I had gotten the question right, I would have had exactly 3/4 of Gabor's score going into Final Jeopardy. In that case, I would bet to tie is current score. That way, if we both missed the question, we would tie for the win with $9200.

I would have gone bigger on the Daily Double if I hadn't just gotten burned on the Iowa response. I lived in Iowa for two years, so how I could have flubbed that one is beyond me. I did think that there were enough questions left on the board to keep me within striking distance in case of a miss with the $4000 bet instead of all $6800. The other issue is that the $2000 level usually means a harder question (and it was the hardest in the category), but US geography is one of my strengths, except for states where I have lived, apparently.

The moment that actually decided the game was when Gabor pulled "metal detector" out of nowhere in the nick of time on his daily double.

If you are interested, you can find discussion about tonight's game, including input from me, Gabor, and other Jeopardy contestants, at the following link:

Congratulations on being on Jeopardy and doing so well. Like Wonderment I think you did a great job and that you were poised and telegenic.
I lurk here occasionally so seeing this thread before you were on the show was a happy chance. Everyday I pick the kids up from school, we get home wash lunch boxes while talking about the day. Then get a snack, ready the homework and then settle down to eat and watch Jeopardy. One of my kids took the online test earlier this month so when I saw this thread I showed it to her, it's been about 3 weeks, we're still hoping. Having read something from one of the contestants made yesterday's Jeopardy watching more fun. Thanks :)
If it's any consolation I guessed Hugh Grant also and instead of metal detector I thought along the lines of ground penetrating radar, something I read on MAD maybe? I did get Iowa right, that's due to driving to Colorado through Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and finally Nebraska and in every state along the way a vast ocean of corn stretched as far as I could see north and south. So again it was great to see you on the show, "knowing" a contestant made it a lot more fun for all of us.

I was wondering, how long after you took the online test was it before they contacted you. It's been 3 weeks since Shiney took the test and she is alternating between sad and hopeful, me too!

My son missed the cutoff for Kid's jeopardy by four days. He was SO disappointed...he's been looking forward to this since he read about the new competition back in February.

So Jeopardy is dead to me. But I'm glad you had fun, Epstein.
