My son missed the cutoff for Kid's jeopardy by four days. He was SO disappointed...he's been looking forward to this since he read about the new competition back in February.

So Jeopardy is dead to me. But I'm glad you had fun, Epstein.

But now he might get a chance at teen Jeopardy. :)

I was wondering, how long after you took the online test was it before they contacted you. It's been 3 weeks since Shiney took the test and she is alternating between sad and hopeful, me too!

It took a full year, but mine was a bit of a special case. When I took the online test, they offered five or six alternate audition sites and one of them was SLC. So it just took them a long time to get around to Salt Lake. I had received notice in February that the online test was going to happen again, so I registered for that, only to receive my invite the next day for the SLC audition that was happening a month later. The audition went really well and I got The Call in the first part of July. I was originally supposed to attend an August 8th taping, but Alex Trebek tore his Achilles tendon chasing a burglar about a week earlier. My tape day was postponed until September 20.

Best of luck to Shiney.

Nice job Epstein! You were poised, articulate and presented yourself very well.

I have one question. When Alex was talking to you, I noticed that he did not ask why you learned the Micronesian language. I assume that you went to Micronesia on your mission and that this is why/how you learned the language. I'm sure that this is not a door that the folks at Jeopardy wanted to open. Did anyone from Jeopardy ask you about this prior to appearance?

Again, well done.

M.P.

Most of the contestants assumed that I was Mormon. I mentioned before the contestant asking about Comorros and Moroni. (That was Gabor, by the way.) Another at the hotel after asked me and my wife if we wanted to hang out in the lounge with her. She said, "I'd offer you a drink, but you probably don't drink."

A couple of former champions talked to me in the hall after and asked specifically if I was in Micronesia for my mission, but Alex didn't ask. The did edit our interview a little. After the part they showed, Alex asked if there was any danger of Chuukese becoming a dead language and I responded that many of the people on the outer islands are still very isolated. I mentioned having conversations with some of the islanders in which they could not wrap their heads around the idea of a six-lane highway.

It was ideal, really. It was nice to be able to talk about an interesting part of my life without having to delve into religion. I know that Alex mentioned Mormonism a few times during Ken Jennings run, but he played 75 games. They had to talk about something.

I loved the game. I didn't get the Iowa one either, And I served my mission there. I even served for a time right on the Iowa/Nebraska border. So I don't blame you for not getting that one. You did a great job. those questions were pretty tough just sitting on my couch. I can't imagine what that's like with the camera rolling.

I just uploaded them.

http://goo.gl/ynSvt

That is a playlist with 4 parts and they should all play in order. Hopefully they don't get pulled down for copyright infringement.

If embedding them here would work better, let me know. You can watch up to a resolution of 720p on YouTube.

The moment that actually decided the game was when Gabor pulled "metal detector" out of nowhere in the nick of time on his daily double.

Yeah, that was a flat out guess. I didn't think he was going to get it. (Hey, even after the spoiler, I can still hope, right?)
