I don't usually visit the exMormon sites anymore, and I definitely haven't written about Mormonism myself (except in the comments section of articles about Mitt Romney), but I was hit with inspiration out of the blue today and wanted to quickly throw together the following short essay:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SBhi36x_sHMi1L0lGF6VW8jObfTav4wsFpWurTDySUQ/edit

It's called "Buzz Lightyear, Ex-Mormon."

Toy Story is one of my favorite movies and, I don't see how I didn't recognize the parallels you referenced. Now, Toy Story is even more one of my favorite movies.

Keep writing, enjoying and thanks for sharing.

Stole that saying from one of my not-Mormon brothers-in-law. He went inactive as a teenager. He was a big comfort to us when we left the church, though he doesn't quite "get" what it's like to make a choice to resign after mission/temple/marriage/BYU/etc. vs. getting out during teenage rebellion.

My brother is the same way. He left the church as a teen. I however, stayed in the church for another 20 years and followed the mormon prescribed path. Intellectually I'm done with the church. I could write a lengthy paper on why the church couldn't possibly be true. However, overcoming the emotional brainwashing, the fear factor, the "what if" factor, takes longer to get over. I haven’t been to church in over three years but occasionally I’ll have a “what if” moment.
