Hi all!

I need your help. I need a bunch of prophesies from past GAs that talk about how great and/or popular the church will get. Stuff like Kimball's "Vision of the Arts" or JS's White Horse Prophecy, etc.

They can be outrageous prophecies (in fact, the more outrageous, the better, for what I'm doing with them), or can be out-of-context (like the White Horse Prophecy is). Well-known prophecies are preferred over obscure ones, but I'll take anything.

I'd think of them all myself but all things Mormon are fading from my brain rather quickly. :D

Thanks!
AA

Hi WC! :)

It's fun to check out FLAK again! It's been awhile since I've been around here.

BTW, for my project, I've decided to just concentrate on the White Horse Prophecy. So, no need for any more prophecies now.

These are obviously not a GA "prophecies" and you're obviously not collecting them anyways but I wanted to share two that I found humorous:

#1 --> One of the dumbest "prophecies" I ever witnessed came from our bishop telling the youth at an eight year old's baptism that their generation would definitely be on the earth when cheezes returns.

#2 --> Another was a local authority who "prophesied" that a town of 8000 people would have their own stake center where the current branch building was located. This is in a very rural part of Georgia, next to the Alabama state line - maybe 30,000 people in the entire county. I laughed out loud one time when the newly appointed bishop, a young and excited 28 year old, announced to the congregation that it was time to make this "prophecy" come to pass!

Ya, whatever dude.

From October 2011 conference:
http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2 ... e?lang=eng

Quote:
These prophecies that:

• the kingdom of God like a stone cut out of a mountain would fill the earth;

• the name of Joseph Smith would be known throughout the world; and

• the Church would fill the Americas and fill the world

might have seemed laughable 170 years ago. The little band of believers, eking out a living on the American frontier and moving to escape persecution, didn’t look like the foundation of a faith that would cross international borders and penetrate hearts everywhere.

But that is just what has happened. Let me give an example.

So, they are still bragging about it.

Check out "Council of Fifty" in wikipedia.

You'll want to get a hold of older materials--"The Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith"; "Discourses of Brigham Young"; "Gospel Doctrine" by Joseph F Smith; "Doctrines of Salvation" not sure which volume of the three by Joseph Fielding Smith; any of BR McConkie's books; any priesthood manual dated before the mid 1980s. If you're in Utah, it shouldn't be hard to get paperback versions of the first few books for next to nothing.
