Hello everyone,
I have been lurking here for a while and I must say you are all quite clever and refreshingly funny. I have been a member all my life, served a mission and married in the Temple, yada, yada, y'all know the rest. But lately I have just been really pissed off. I'm sick of the way women are patronized in the church and the way young girls are mostly forgotten.
I hate the idea of devoting my life to my husband (whom I love) and then having my eternal reward being one of his celestial harem. How twisted is that?! Do people really believe that?
Honestly, I love certain aspects of the church, but there's a lot that just makes me crazy.
Most of my family are TBM. So are my in laws but they are so dysfunctional I'm not sure it really counts. My husband is a devoted and active member that holds a leadership position, but even he displays frustration at some of the bureaucratic and hypocritical aspects of the church.
Anyway, it has been a huge relief to have found this board and know that I am not alone.
Thanks for listening. I really have no one else to talk to about my fears and frustrations with the church. It's not like I can raise my hand in RS and say "Does anyone else think polygamy was a big load of crap? Because I sure as hell do."

OMG your signature line is hysterical.

You must be in Utah because I think that my family ward RS has possibly had that conversation.
I think it lead back to some sort of fuzzy feel good way of saying 'deal with it.' Like, Heavenly Father loves us and I'm sure he wouldnt make us suffer to terribly much.

It is interesting that the Mormon version of the best Heaven is basicly most women's earthly nightmare. After having a child die, and being raped and maybe incapacitated I think that a straying husband is a womans most soul destroying experience.

As I have told a dear friend of mine, 'You are going to leave the church eventually if you can't decide in yourself that polygamy was a mistake and not of God.'
Some people just like self torture...

Anyway welcome. Thank you for unlurking. The more people that are talking about themselves the less percentage of people are picking on me is what I always say...

Good to meet you, Sister Snarky! Be sure, to share your doubts with your husband as they are emerging. It'll make it easier for him to process.

With respect to polygamy, God is one sorry excuse for selfishness.

Hey, welcome aboard, Sister Snarky! With a name like that, you are TOATALLY going to fit in well.

Regarding men's heaven being women's hell--I've heard a TBM friend of mine laughing at a joke about good little Islamic girls, if they behave themselves all their lives, will get to go to heaven and be a sex slave of a suicide bomber for all eternity. And this with NO sense of irony that mormon heaven is essentially the same set up for women.

I look forward to seeing you around the joint!

Don't you worry your pretty little red head, Sister Tangerine. I'll always have time to pick on you.

Snarky, welcome. If you are really good, I will find some time to pick on you too.

I want to Hellmut, really, but there are some funky dynamics right now that make that hard. So in the meantime I hang out in the DAMU and sit in church and roll my eyes alot.

SS, welcome! It sounds like your situation is one in which you might get some help from the always friendly and often wise people at the New Order Mormon board, which specializes in helping those who become disaffected with the Church deal with that reality, especially with the issue of dealing with believing family members. If you haven't been over there, I encourage you to check it out.

I, too, like the handle. I thought for sure someone would pick up on one of the comments about GC and go with the name "Pink Burkha," though.

Welcome. I've been a "in name only" Mormon for 2 years before finally resigning two month ago from this cult I converted to. All I basically did was go to the 3 hour block and that was it. I gave up on:

1st Sunday fasting
reading scriptures
FHE
caffeine
home teaching (and being home taught)
cursing
avoiding R movies - through Netflix only since I've started seeing R movies (3 thus far) in theatres since I resigned.

Hopefully your husband has the courage to see the light even more. :-)

Welcome! Sounds like you'll fit right in. This is a good place to vent and get feedback that you aren't under the devil's influence for not believing some of the junk the church tries to feed you.

Welcome, welcome!

I was a very confused "closet doubter" when I discovered the online boards a couple years ago. Now I'm a very "out" apostate! And very happy about it.

I hope your path takes you to your happy place. :D

Welcome Sister Snarky,

I'm very new to this board, but not at all new to post Mormonism or the discussions thereof.

A word of advice. Be careful. If the Mormons catch wind of your questioning and find you to be serious about it, they will attempt to end your marriage. Especially if you live in the Mormon Corridor.

My apostacy came at a great price as my marital relationship had a very direct link to the Mormon church. However, no longer living what I knew was a lie was a very liberating experience.
