I'm going to propose the Backpew as the name for the new board. For one, it has similar connotations as the Foyer and would indicate our shared heritage. For older Foyerites, it can be a hommage to our dear, departed Backpew. She used to participate regularly in the community, but, being yoked to a TBM, she had to leave for the sake of her marriage. Those of us who knew her miss her fiesty personality and sharp wit.

She also penned the Kolob First Ward comics (with a little help from me on the storyboard) that you can find here:

But the back pew is actually IN the chapel. That's moving the wrong direction!

Though I do remember fondly Backpew the person.

How about the Countercultural Hall. Kidding, got nothing.

Why not have two foyers? Aren't there usually two in a standard church building anyway? And don't members from one ward graviate to one foyer and members of a second ward go to the other if the building is shared? Call this the DAMU 2nd ward foyer. Or the South Foyer, or East, or whatever.

The other board is in the Aimoo East Stake and we're in the Kolob Cafe North Stake. or something.

Or, Parking Lot. lol

Being that we have the domain name "thefoyer.org", it will be difficult to change the site name unless we got a new domain and had "thefoyer.org" point to it.

For that reason, I favor The Foyer, but unfortunately we have been call VFTF "The Foyer" for years which can cause confusion. People in their posts have been distinguishing them by old Foyer and new Foyer. I think we need some way to distinguish this one.

Perhaps:
"The Outer Foyer" (aka OF)
"The PHP Foyer"
"The Kolob Foyer"
"Foyer II"
"The Exalted Foyer"
"The Irreverent Foyer" (aka IF)
"The Foyer Offspring"
"The Foyer Unlimited" (aka FU)
Perhaps there is a better FU acronym

As an aside, I once lived in the actual Kolob Stake in Springville. It's a typical suburb in the old southeast (as opposed to Hunter's Valley area, where we also lived at one time) part of town.

It never struck me as particularly weird, but then again, I grew up the eponymous Springville Stake and had heard about the KS pretty much all my life.

How about "The Parking Lot" as in that's where some folks go when they leave the foyer.

Or "the coffee shop" as that's where the cool folks go when they leave the foyer.

But we do have to have "the foyer" in our title, because that's our URL. And I think just plain "The Foyer" works nicely. I liked The Reorganized View from the Foyer" a lot though. Oh well.

Or just "the foy"?
It's Scots for a farewell feast, drink, or gift, as at a wedding. From the Dutch foye, or journey, from Latin via, meaning road. The connotations seem right.

Actually I prefer the two foyers idea. There are foyers all over the church, so why not more than one? It would be a great message to the world if we can have different foyers, each with a different emphasis, yet still get along. It proves that we have overcome the old Mormon "One True Church" Arrogance.

With so many DAMU forums we should have some kind of web ring. So that new people can find the forum that suits them best. Why not a ring? People would start out with NOM or the Fringe, the friendly fellowshipping boards. They would be The Fellowship of the Ring. Then as people begin their journey out of the church they come to The Two Foyers. And finally they resolve their issues by confronting their demons in Mordoor (the Mormon Corridor). For some people they choose a real church instead, a Christ centered church - the return of The King. For others, they become humanists, it's the start of a new Third Age in their lives, the Age of Men.

I know its the name of one of the sections of The Foyer, but what about the name "The Meta-Foyer" ? I went to dictionary.com and found some definitions for meta:

meta- or met-

1.
a. Later in time: metestrus.
b. At a later stage of development: metanephros.
2. Situated behind: metacarpus.
3.
a. Change; transformation: metachromatism.
b. Alternation: metagenesis.
4.
a. Beyond; transcending; more comprehensive: metalinguistics.
b. At a higher state of development: metazoan.

I thought these were interesting.

She's not dead yet.

Anyway KingM, I'm going to tell her that you are paying her homage. I couldn't agree with your sentiment more.

That's where I can be found most Sunday mornings.

Really, keep the name The Foyer. That's what the url is.
