Mormon Apologetics Discussion (MAD) is currently hosting a scintillating exercise in ignorance and homophobic violence. What I love is how the original poster pats himself on the back for his innovative, creative, and compassionate thinking.

Apparently, Postmormon.org has been shredding the arguments already (excuse me if this has already been posted and I missed it), but I thought we should get in on the action:

I get a "forbidden" error no matter how I try to access the MAD board. Weird.

I just cut and paste it, so I know it works. Maybe because you're on an overseas ISP or it could be there server is having problems since the URL has been posted all over the progressive and gay blogosphere this morning.

Maybe I just don't get out much, but I've never heard the phrase 'sexual sobriety' before. If such a thing exists, I want no part of it!

Why not just kill everyone before the reach the age of 8 and guarantee their salvation? Would you be for that, too? When did the plan of salvation become the plan of coercion?

I am so sick of the mental hoops members of the church are having to jump through now that virtually everyone knows being born sexually attracted to your own gender is not a choice.

Well, I'm not dum or anything. I did copy and paste. Then I googled and tried to link. Then I opened IE and tried to do several different things with that browser. For some reason, I'm just getting 403s regardless of my method. Alas. It's for the best that I can't read MAD, I'm sure.

(I have gotten on there a number of times in the past, so the non-US IP is probably not a factor. I will have to try from a different computer maybe. If I can be arsed. )

You can try using a proxy server, Wry. Do they ban IP addresses over there?

I'm definitely not banned at MAD. I will use the proxies tomorrow.

This is all the result of a church that has no empathy or compassion. Plus the rightious are very concerned about how to make others obey their Laws. Its all couched in terms of doing people a favour by mutilating them. I am sure that the righteous can find scripture to support their ideas, like "pluck thy eye out if it offend thee". A few of the posters picked up on a flaw in their own argument. The Mormon God hates our fledshy bodies and sees us as sinful. So however you cut it, everyone, including themselves, must be mutilated in some way or another. They probably would gladly cut their arms off. They all praise Abraham for willing to slice up Isaac.

A 403 error is, if I'm not mistaken (Sol?) usually on the side of the server hosting the site for a range of reasons, from not having permission to the server being busy. So my guess is MAD are blocking overseas ISPs or like I said above the server is getting slammed from being linked to from everywhere today.

Here's a list of possible 403 errors
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_403

In any case, Wry, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's skull-splittingly ignorant banter by people who can't believe how cool they are for coming up with a way for gay people to stay mormon!

What about the gay people who buy into this shit? I had an gay, recently baptized, gentlemen over to my house for thanksgiving a few years ago. He was openly gay even bore his testimony about it and happily LDS and seemed to be looking forward to a life of forced sexlessness. Super nice, my kids loved him as did my wife and I, but I couldn't help, even as a TBM, but feel incredibly sad for him and his future. He moved to AZ shortly after our thanksgiving dinner, so I don't know what happened to him, but I hope he eventually woke up to the ignorance and audacity of it all. How common is this attitude among gay members?

Did you not see my post earlier about my needing to stay away from places like that.

I don't have the patience to formulate cohesive responses there right now, though I am constantly coming up with responses that would make the Gettysburg Address green with envy.

It's weird. I get in moods like this where I want to rail against idiots such as those over there, but find I have neither the patience or drive to do so, then on other days I can't seem to leave the damn keyboard alone.

Oh, didn't I tell you all here that I was re-diagnosed as bi-polar last week?

Whatever...

Sorry cumom, didn't mean to thread-jack Crying or Very sad
